You need these documents for the KYC registration. KYC (Know Your Customer) is an RBI mandated guideline that makes it compulsory for the distributor/bank/AMC etc. to verify and register your details before any investment is made. Once you have gone through the KYC process, you need not do it again. This is a way to for financial service providers to safeguard the risk they may be getting exposed to and also, to know you better!

The mutual funds industry is highly regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) which works towards investor rights protection as well. The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) aims to maintain the standards and ethical practices in the industry and works in tandem with SEBI.
